Instructional Coach

What is an Instructional Coach?

An instructional coach is someone whose chief professional responsibility is to bring evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with teachers and other school leaders. We focus our one-on-one and small group support for teachers, coaches, and school leaders around evidence-based literacy strategies and the instructional coaching process with the goals of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, and building teacher capacity in schools.

Coaches work one-on-one and in small groups with teachers, providing guidance, training, and other resources as needed. Together, they focus on practical strategies for engaging students and improving their learning. Coaches also are often responsible for providing or arranging professional development activities for all teachers in a school or district.

Coaching is confidential, non-evaluative, and supportive. Coaches work one-on-one and in small groups with teachers on specific teaching strategies or problems, focusing on practical changes they can make in their classrooms. This ongoing one-on-one work is supplemented by other professional development activities, and skillful mentors often help support and extend the work of coaches.

Our goal is twofold: improved instructional practice and improved student learning.

I am excited to be joining the Washington and Bishop staff as an Instructional Coach!  Before coming to Rochester, I was an Elementary teacher for 11 years.  I have a variety of teaching experiences;  I taught 8th grade English in Pine Island, and taught grades: K, 1, 2, 3, 5 in Owatonna, MN.  I received my Masters of Education from Winona State University.

I am married and have two children.  My husband is a Detective for Olmsted County.  My son, Tanner is a junior and goes to Byron High School.  My daughter, Tiffany is 21 and is going to UMR to become a Respiratory Therapist.  We just recently moved to Rochester. When I'm not at school,  I love to read, going for long walks,  watching Tanner in sports,  and spending time with my family and friends.
